About the Artist

Vania EvangeliqueVania Evangelique, formerly known as Zeal Eva, works within the visual realms of painting, photography and curation. Being a visual storyteller her work is deeply rooted in personal history and  is heavily influenced by the communities in which she navigates.

Her practice, in its rawest form, focuses its foundation on the idea of looking away to look back. She creates works that move her towards the future, while also stepping outside of the present, and in so doing, being able to create and draw parallels from her past that tell of a more dynamic and vulnerable story. She looks beyond the mere creation of art and centers her work into the personhood of it, that is  often found in the mundane, transitional, and sometimes stretching processes of life. In her pieces, she utilizes themes of nostalgia, longing, the complicated realities of comfort, all while exploring the intersections of the natural world and the built environments. Through layered processes, and integrated mediums, she anchors herself  to the present, in this way, allowing her to draw from the imagined, to reality and back again.
