About
On behalf of Friends of the Riverfront, Shiftworks Community + Public Arts is seeking artists or artist teams to compete in the third annual Slammin’ Cans 2026 mural arts festival at Color Park, located along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood. Artists and artist teams with little or no mural experience are encouraged to apply. All participating artists will receive hands-on mural-making instruction prior to the event.
Co-organized by muralist and Pittsburgh Creative Corps artist Max Gonzales, the festival will feature ten (10) artists or artist teams competing for a commission opportunity to design beer can artwork for one beer produced by one of the three participating member breweries of the Pittsburgh Brewers Guild. The event will also include drop-in mural-making activities for guests of all ages and live music performances by KRUNK Movement, a Hazelwood hip-hop collective.
This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is open to any artist or artist team who has not participated in a previous Slammin’ Cans event and who lives and works within the 13-county region of southwestern Pennsylvania.
There will be two artist information sessions prior to the application deadline:
(Virtual) Thursday, August 20, 2026 from 3:00 – 4:00 PM ET
(In-Person) Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM ET
Advance registration is required to attend the virtual session; please see details in the Request for Qualifications. The in-person session will be held at Color Park, South Side.
