Viii Dorsey

Viii Dorsey is an interdisciplinary audio/visual artist, writer, & vocalist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who weaves together a variety of art forms to create unique compositions that speak to the surrounding culture, and themes of reflection, unity, & development.

Viii Dorsey enjoys an expansive art practice and she works in many modalities and mediums including poetry, spoken-word, vocal performance, sound baths, songwriting, story-telling, zine-making, collage, and abstract/landscape photography as well as genre-fluid music composition, experimental and improvisational sound design, and holistic & somatic wellness.

“I’m a free thinker and creative and I like to explore the many ways creativity can unite us with our communities, our lands, and ourselves. My work is meant to inspire connection and reflection and spark creativity as a liberatory force. How can we liberate our minds through the arts and convey the messages that mean something real to us in ways both abstract and that pay homage to the beauty of the past and the authenticity of our voice? Who knew how much being ourselves and telling our truth could be activism?”

Viii brings a multitude of mediums into conversation with each other through an Afro-futuristic lens on time and space. Her creative practice often centers around themes of origins, overcoming, luminescence, & liberation. Viii embodies an approach to art that is as unbounded as the freedom we seek for ourselves.
