Moments of Serenity, 2025. Installed in the West Entry hallway at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, this suspended sculpture is composed of 26 wave-shaped glass pieces. As visitors move along the corridor, the translucent colors shift and overlap, creating gentle rhythms of flow and stillness.
Synergy, 2025. Composed of 330 glass pieces fused with photographic decals sourced from over 23,000 archival images, this commission commemorates the rich history of glassmaking in the region and the community fostered by Pittsburgh Glass Center since its opening in 2001.
The House We Live In, 2023. Glass and photographic decal. 14′ x 6.’ Work made in collaboration with seven people who were invited to curate photographs from their family albums in response to the prompt “What makes you who you are?”
We Are All in This Together, 2016. Photographic series documenting the nuances of public and private life through candid observations of subway passengers, highlighting the complexity of human interaction in shared spaces.

About the Artist
Sandra Bacchi is a Brazilian-American visual artist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Working across photography, kiln-formed glass, and film, she creates large-scale installations that integrate imagery, transparency, and light into architectural space. Her work explores the emotional resonance of images and materials, creating environments that shift with the viewer’s movement and changing light.
After earning a degree in photography from Escola Panamericana de Artes in São Paulo in 1997, Bacchi began her career in the Brazilian film industry. From 2002 to 2012 she served as executive producer of a video production company in São Paulo before relocating to the United States in 2012, where she expanded her practice toward photography-based installations and public art.
Recent commissions include permanent installations for the Pittsburgh Glass Center’s new building (2025), UPMC Shadyside Hospital (2025), and Incline Equity Partners in New York City (2025). In 2026, her installation Entre (Between) was part of the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. Bacchi serves on the board of the Pittsburgh Glass Center and is a member of Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Creative Corps.
