About the Artist
Sam Ticknor is a Pittsburgh-based artist with a unique blend of expertise in fine arts, education, and technology. She holds a BFA in Fine Art and Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University (2015) and an MFA in Studio Art from New York University (2023).
In her studio practice, Ticknor creates imaginative works on paper using water-based materials such as gouache, watercolor, and ink. Her paintings have been exhibited in both group and solo exhibitions throughout the region.
An experienced educator, Ticknor currently teaches undergraduate drawing and painting at Seton Hill University. During summer, she leads pre-college drawing and painting courses at New York University and conducts children’s workshops at Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Her past teaching experience includes positions at Carnegie Mellon University, The Drawing Center in New York, and The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.
As a creative technologist, Ticknor has contributed to award-winning museum exhibitions, mobile apps, interactive installations, and educational technology. Her latest project was an educational screen-printing app for The Andy Warhol Museum. Her approach emphasizes close collaboration between creative and technical teams, ensuring artful translation from concept to execution.
Ticknor’s range makes her well-suited for traditional artistic projects, interactive digital projects, teaching engagements, or innovative combinations that blend these disciplines!
