About the Artist

MarySue FlickI am an artist working out of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, who specializes in oversized paintings, mural work, as well as ferro-cement and wire-screen sculpture. I want to paint the world! Everywhere I look, I see a canvas begging for art: the walls in my studio and home, overgrown concrete walls, wooden fences. They all call to me. It is my great hope that I can use my painting abilities to bring beauty to some of the declining areas of my neighborhood and other communities around me, thereby bringing pride and happiness to these areas.

I have recently completed two murals at either end of the McKees Rocks business district. The “I Love Your Smile” mural on the side of the Fr. Ryan Arts Center was designed by me, and I led a team of community members to complete the mural both directly on the wall, and on polytab which we hung on the higher areas of the wall. You can also see another award-winning mural I completed at the other end of the McKees Rocks business district which I designed and led another team of community painters to complete. This mural was awarded the first ever Kennedy Garden Club non-traditional garden award!

Pittsburgh Creative Corps

Designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pittsburgh Creative Corps initiative engages artists and creative workers to activate the public realm while providing economic opportunity.

“I believe in the importance of community collaboration in public art. It gives them ownership, pride, and I have found that brainstorming with community brings life and an abundance of ideas that will only make an artistic concept better in the end.”
