About the Artist

Jaime EarnestJamie Earnest is a contemporary visual artist from Decatur, Alabama. She received her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and is based in Pittsburgh, PA. Her work explores the instability of presence and the tension between what is seen and what is suggested. Drawing from her Southern upbringing and personal experiences, she uses symbols, shadows, and silhouettes to navigate themes of identity, perception, and belonging. Earnest’s paintings often reflect on how light and shadow shape visibility—both literally and metaphorically—and how clarity often comes through engaging with darkness.

Beyond her studio practice, Earnest is committed to building equitable artist communities. She founded the Artist Opportunity Blog at Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, a free resource that has shared over 2,000 opportunities for local artists. She has also taught workshops with CMU Pre-College and believes in artist-to-artist collaboration as a way of “seeing together rather than alone”—creating shared visibility, connection, and care across creative communities.

“I am drawn to projects that ask how art can hold what might otherwise go unseen, and how engaging with the public realm can make those unseen layers more visible.”
