About the Artist

Gregg ValleyGregg Valley is known for creating bold, vibrant, and unmistakably unique artwork. Since earning his BFA in Illustration from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, Gregg has developed and refined a distinctive technique he calls “faceting”, a process of breaking down large shapes into smaller, geometric fragments, each hand-colored to bring energy and dimension to the image.
This signature style defined his successful career as an illustrator, where he collaborated with publishers, agencies, and corporations across the U.S. Today, Gregg has scaled up his vision, applying his faceting method to the world of public art. His large-scale murals, some towering up to 65 feet high and stretching 230 feet wide, now adorn urban landscapes in Western Pennsylvania, Northern California, and Chicago.

Among his recent public works are vibrant murals for The Carnegie Science Center, The Western PA School for Blind Children, and a striking 40-foot installation in Pittsburgh’s Strip District.
“When Gregg Valley puts brush to canvas or paint to a wall, he has plotted out precisely how all the shapes and pieces come together. The result is a colorful, unique, progressive point of view of our world.”

—Michael Killen, Co-founder of Animal, Inc.

Pittsburgh Creative Corps

Designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pittsburgh Creative Corps initiative engages artists and creative workers to activate the public realm while providing economic opportunity.

“I see my work as a collaboration between myself and the community that I am creating a mural for. I love to meet with community members to get a feel for what they would like to see in a mural, and work those ideas into my finished art.”
