I See YOU, 2022, photography, aluminum, dye sublimination, 4′ x 6′ (each, 8 total). Commissioned for Bakery Square and made in collaboration with students from Urban Academy and Lincoln Elementary.
Judah, 2022, photography, vinyl, 170″ x 153″ (15 panels). Commissioned by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership for the Granite Building at 6th and Wood Street. Images made in cooperation with Propel Charter Schools in McKeesport and Braddock Hills.
Across Time, 2023, photography, aluminum, dye sublimination, 48″ x 24″ each. Commissioned for Community College of Allegheny County’s Workforce Development Training Center.
Remanent of Promise, 2018, photography prints and video, 45 images: 8″ x 10″, 11″ x 14.” Site-specific installation for Alloy Pittsburgh at the Carrie Furnaces in Rankin, PA.
Better Block McKeesport–5th Ave & Walnut St, 2025, paint, supplies, volunteers. Partnership with local volunteers, Mon Valley Arts, the Better Block Foundation, and the City of McKeesport.
About the Artist
Curtis Reaves thoughtfully creates public installations, and artful accents for residential and commercial interiors. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States, including the Chicago Historical Society, the Senator John Heinz History Center, and the Carnegie Museum of Art. The foundation and uniqueness of his work is influenced by the process of envisioning the countless possibilities unearthed in discarded materials. Curtis is inspired by shapes, textures and composition, and he finds the most interesting things in unexpected places. Reaves utilizes film, digital processes, and computer technology to transform his work into poetic abstract imagery.
Artist Statement
“My artistry involves a dual concentration. As a teaching artist, I utilize video and photography as a vehicle for artistic expression, social change, and economic empowerment with community youth and adults. As a creative entrepreneur, my passion and strength is founded in my intrinsic ability to take discarded materials and found artifacts, and transform them into distinct pieces that have a lasting impact.”
