Six-week artist education series offers tools and insights needed to succeed in public art

Pittsburgh, PA — Shiftworks’ online education program, Public Art Training Camp, returns on Thursday, September 26, 2024. This six-week program is designed to provide artists and cultural workers with the opportunity to learn about different topics from local and national arts practitioners. Sessions are practice-oriented and applicable to different aspects of an artist’s trajectory. This year’s topics are comprehensive and range from a workshop focused on balancing wellness, self-care, and an art practice, to navigating community-based public art with little to no experience.

Each session will be held online via Zoom on Thursdays from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM ET. Registration is $20 per person per session; workshops are $30 per person per workshop. Advance registration is required and will close three hours prior to the session start time. A limited number of scholarships are available for each session; please contact Rachel Klipa at rachel@shiftworkspgh.org for inquiries. “This year’s Public Art Training Camp sessions focus on a wide breadth of an artist’s practice, acknowledging that artists engage in various types of creative labor and need more holistic strategies,” said Rachel Klipa, Shiftworks’ Program Manager for Education. “There are also two dedicated workshop sessions; one for building life-work balance in the creative sector, and another for writing artist statements. Full-session workshops are new this year, with the intention of attendees learning and implementing new tools on-the-spot.”
