Downtown Walk and Write with Sherrie Flick

Interested in getting outside and doing some creative urban exploring this summer? Writer Sherrie Flick will lead three guided hour-and-a-half writing and walking tours that use the urban environment for creative inspiration. Each session will focus on a different theme; the theme for this walk will be the built environment. Writer Charles Rosenblum will be joining Sherrie Flick to lead this tour. No experience necessary—just pen, paper, curiosity, and walking shoes.

About Sherrie Flick

Sherrie Flick is an award-winning writer, editor, and teacher who loves to walk around. She’s the author of the novel Reconsidering Happiness and two short story collections, Whiskey, Etc. and Thank Your Lucky Stars. Her nonfiction has appeared in Ploughshares, The Wall Street Journal, Creative Nonfiction, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She teaches in the Food Studies and MFA programs at Chatham University and is co-editor for Flash Fiction America, (W.W. Norton 2022). www.sherrieflick.com.

About Charles Rosenblum

Charles Rosenblum is a journalist, critic, and scholar writing about architecture, art and other aspects of visual culture. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia writing about the architecture of Henry Hornbostel and taught at universities in western Pennsylvania for 20 years. Charles has won journalism awards for architectural writing in the Pittsburgh City Paper and Pittsburgh Quarterly, and his writing has appeared in books and publications nationally. He is delighted to work with Sherrie Flick and Pittsburgh’s Office of Public Art.

Event Location

Meet in front of the shipping container on 6th Street and Fort Duquesne Boulevard in the closed outbound lane. The shipping container has a mural painted on the back side and is placed directly  in front of the Renaissance Hotel.
