Wilkinsburg Sacred Spaces Arts and Culture Community Day

Artworks of three artists from the Environment, Health, and Public Art initiative

Historic Wilkinsburg’s 2021 annual Sacred Spaces Tour celebrates history, arts, and culture, featuring in-person tours of three historic landmark churches, a virtual series of six additional historical church videos to be released soon; six Pittsburgh bands including Outside Elisa and Murder for Girls; Shana Simmons Dance; and The Wilkinsburg Community Ministries food festival. Office of Public Art (OPA) will be onsite during the event to feature the artists and artworks of the Environment, Health, and Public Art initiative. Artist Ginger Brooks Takahashi, who collaborated with Center for Civic Arts and UpstreamPGH, will lead walking tours to the sites of the Nine Mile Run Viewfinder, departing every hour beginning at 12:30 and ending at 4:30pm; Aaron Henderson, who partnered with the Breathe Collaborative, will present his projection and sound installations from Project Mon Valley; and Mary Tremonte, who worked with Grow Pittsburgh, will hold hands-on dirt screenprinting demonstrations and distribute zines from the SHEd Cart, part of her Dirt is Beautiful project. An information tent staffed by OPA, as well as the SHEd Cart, will be located near the garden at 710 Mulberry Street. Tours to Nine Mile Run Viewfinder will also depart from this location.
