Join us for an invigorating afternoon appropriate for all age levels. The dance will be a combination of popular folk and light classical dance movements\, which will be easy to follow and fun for all. Please wear comfortable clothes\, bring water\, and shoes are optional during the class. Class duration is one hour and 15 minutes. \nAbout Sanskruti School of Indian Dance and Music\nSanskruti School of Indian Dance and Music was founded in Pittsburgh by the performing artiste\, choreographer and artistic director\, Guru Smt. Shambhavi Desai. It offers an ongoing comprehensive training for beginner through advanced levels in Bharatanatyam\, Lok Nritya (Folk dance)\, and Hindustani Classical\, Semi Classical and Devotional music. Its mission is to groom the students in Indian culture and performing arts\, and to support\, celebrate and present to a wide range of international audiences the dance and music of India through performances\, workshops\, educational outreach programs\, and formal dance and music instruction. Sanskruti also offers a formal examination for Hindustani classical vocal conducted by the ‘Pandit Jasraj Institute for Music and Research’ after the first two or three years of training. \nSanskruti dance and music programs are influenced by the contemporary cultures of India\, by experimenting with different languages\, music\, and social topics-while retaining the unique Indian essence that defines the Indian Diaspora. \nSanskruti has been performing for the past many years at all major events locally and special events around the United States. SUMMARY:Community Dance Class with Flamenco Pittsburgh
DESCRIPTION:Join Flamenco Pittsburgh for this free class to learn the basics of flamenco. Flamenco is an art form based on the folkloric music traditions of southern Spain\, later shaped and influenced by musicians and performers in the Caribbean\, Latin America\, and Europe. UNESCO recently recognized it as part of the World’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. Many have fallen in love with the passion\, joy\, and rhythm that Flamenco embodies from exquisite combinations of singing (cante)\, music (toque)\, dance (baile)\, and rhythmic hand-clapping (palmas). Please wear comfortable clothes\, bring water\, and wear comfortable shoes. Class duration is one hour and 15 minutes. \nAbout Flamenco Pittsburgh\nFlamenco Pittsburgh seeks to celebrate and increase awareness of flamenco culture in Western Pennsylvania. As part of that mission\, we offer flamenco instruction for the community\, for beginner to advanced levels. Our instructors and performing artists are professionals who teach and perform in addition to their daytime vocations. DESCRIPTION:Interested in getting outside and doing some creative urban exploring this summer? Writer Sherrie Flick will lead three guided hour-and-a-half writing and walking tours that use the urban environment for creative inspiration. Each session will focus on a different theme; the theme for this walk will be sensory detail. No experience necessary—just pen\, paper\, curiosity\, and walking shoes. \nAbout Sherrie Flick\nSherrie Flick is an award-winning writer\, editor\, and teacher who loves to walk around. She’s the author of the novel Reconsidering Happiness and two short story collections\, Whiskey\, Etc. and Thank Your Lucky Stars. Her nonfiction has appeared in Ploughshares\, The Wall Street Journal\, Creative Nonfiction\, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She teaches in the Food Studies and MFA programs at Chatham University and is co-editor for Flash Fiction America\, (W.W.
