SUMMARY:Shiftworks at Shore Thing: Pollinate Your Creative Flow with Celeste Neuhaus
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, participants will engage with the river and local ecosystem to discover the interconnections between their creative process\, the act of pollination\, and the element of water. \nThrough writing prompts and guided watercolor explorations participants will be supported through making contact with their creative blocks\, allowing for these blocks to release and metamorphosize into flow. No prior experience necessary to participate. \nEach participant will leave with seeds and seedlings from a local micro-nursery to plant at home to contribute to pollinator pathways. They will also be gifted a watercolor set and sketchbook to paint their ongoing growth. \nThis workshop is part of the Pittsburgh Creative Corps artist program series\, presented by Shiftworks Community + Public Arts and made possible by the City of Pittsburgh’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Arts Programming initiative. For more info\, visit: pittsburghcreativecorps.org. \nAbout the Artist\nCeleste Neuhaus (she/they) is a multimodal artist and witch who constellates magic\, ecology\, and healing. Their sculptural objects\, assemblages\, paintings\, and guided rituals vividly materialize the often subconscious interdependencies between the continuum of the somatic – psychological – political – ecological – cosmological. \nShe is the originator of Conjure Creativity: one-on-one sessions and group workshops where she guides participants into deeper embodied alignment with their unique creative process. This work is an offering of service and devotion to the wildness and mystery that ignite and nourish each individual’s inner spark. \nPhoto by Anna Brewer. \nParking and Transportation\nPaid public parking is available in the nearby North Shore Garage (across E. SUMMARY:Shiftworks at Shore Thing: Light Through Color with La Vispera
DESCRIPTION:Join La Vispera for a hands-on workshop beneath the shade structure artwork they created for Shore Thing. Participants will explore the same materials and techniques used in the installation\, including selecting\, cutting\, and assembling discarded plastics into original artworks to take home. \nWith design options for varying skill levels\, this workshop offers a firsthand introduction to La Vispera’s creative process and sustainable approach to artmaking. \nThis workshop is part of the Pittsburgh Creative Corps artist program series\, presented by Shiftworks Community + Public Arts and made possible by the City of Pittsburgh’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Arts Programming initiative. For more info\, visit: pittsburghcreativecorps.org. \nAbout the Artist\nLa Vispera is an art collective between Kelly Jimenez and Alejandro Franco\, both Colombian artists who specialize in creating highly crafted works of art using discarded materials. Our repertoire includes stop-motion animation\, photography\, sculptures\, and\, predominantly\, stained glass windows made from single-use plastic. \nAs nature enthusiasts\, we continually strive to bring environmental issues to the forefront of our art. Our stained glass pieces are a testament to our commitment to this cause. Through the use of the material’s translucency and color variations\, we have transformed what is typically a transient and detrimental substance into something of great beauty that we consider worth preserving. \nParking and Transportation\nPaid public parking is available in the nearby North Shore Garage (across E. SUMMARY:East Liberty Public Art Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Morton Brown\, a local public art aficionado\, will take us on a walking tour to explore the history and public art of one of the most beloved Pittsburgh neighborhoods – East Liberty. \nMorton is an independent art consultant and served as the City of Pittsburgh’s Public Art Manager from 2009 – 2015. He has many interesting\, first-hand stories to share regarding the development and preservation of public art in East Liberty\, such as the first artist-designed pedestrian bridge in Pittsburgh\, Shady Liberty\, by Sheila Klein; the Joy of Life sculpture by Virgil Cantini; Leslie Ansley’s Convergence; To Be Human\, by Ann Lewis\, on the façade of Duolingo HQ; and Thaddeus Mosley’s sculptures at Eastside Bond Plaza. \nPlease join us for this one-of-a-kind tour! \nAccess & Accommodations\nThe tour will meet in front of the main entrance of East Liberty Presbyterian Church\, located at 116 S. Highland Avenue\, Pittsburgh\, PA 15206. \nThis event will take place outdoors; please dress accordingly and wear comfortable shoes. \nThe route of this tour will navigate city sidewalks and crosswalks along a mostly flat\, paved surface. \nPublic restrooms are available at the start of\, and during the tour. \nShiftworks is committed to making our events and programming accessible to as many community members as possible.
