SUMMARY:Walk & Write: Greenfield with Nancy Krygowski
DESCRIPTION:Join host Sherrie Flick as we hit the hills of Greenfield with guest poet Nancy Krygowski. There will be walking\, writing prompts\, a dive into the act of noticing\, and an opportunity to write with live readings from Nancy as inspiration. This Walk & Write will occur after dusk; headlamps will be provided to all participants. \nAbout the Walk & Write Tour Series\nSince 2021\, local writer Sherrie Flick has led the popular Walk & Write Tour series for Shiftworks. The summer and fall of 2024 marks the fourth season of this successful program. Over the past three seasons\, the Walk & Write Tour series has explored Downtown Pittsburgh\, Hazelwood\, Morningside\, the North Shore\, and the South Side to name a few. \nThese hour-and-a-half tours traverse city neighborhoods and introduce tour-goers to various walking trails and footpaths. This season includes Flick working with guest writers Nancy Krygowski\, Sarah Shotland\, and Robert Yune\, each exploring a different neighborhood and theme\, such as noticing\, inside/outside\, the past isn’t the past\, and immersion. \nAs participants walk these areas\, they will have the opportunity to exercise their creative writing skills\, responding to Flick’s writing prompts at each tour stop. The writing prompts are unique to each tour route and correspond with its surroundings. Each guest writer will read their work aloud during the program. \nAbout Nancy Krygowski\nNancy Krygowski is the author of The Woman in the Corner\, named one of the top 100 (or so) poetry books of 2020 by Library Journal\, and Velocity\, winner of the Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize. She teaches in Carlow University’s Madwomen in the Attic writing program. She is co-editor of the Pitt Poetry Series and the Pittsburgh Bureau Chief of the tiny weekly newspaper\, Tiny Day. \n\n\n\nAdditional Information\nThere are no public restrooms available along the tour route. The walking route is hilly and may be more strenuous than other Walk & Write Tour routes. All writing abilities are welcome and no previous writing experience is necessary. Participants should bring paper and a writing implement\, wear good walking shoes\, and bring their curiosity to environments that may be new to them. \nThe tour will take place rain or shine. Please be prepared for any type of weather. If there is severe weather on the day of the tour requiring cancellation\, participants will be notified by email 2 – 4 hours in advance of the tour start time. \nMeeting Location\nBud Hammer Field in Greenfield\, Bigelow Street at Bristol Street. The exact address is 4301 Tasso Street\, Pittsburgh\, PA 15207. Participants should plan to arrive by 6:50 PM to check in with a Shiftworks staff member. The tour will begin promptly at 7:00 PM. \nParking and Transportation\nStreet parking is available within the vicinity. If taking public transportation\, there are Pittsburgh Regional Transit stops within the vicinity that serve routes 58\, 65\, and 93. For more information\, please visit the PRT website: https://www.rideprt.org/ \nPhotography\, Videography\, and Other Documentation\nParticipants should be aware that photography\, videorecording\, and/or other documentation of the event by Shiftworks\, other attendees\, or the media may take place during the event. Participants will have an opportunity to indicate if they choose to opt out of being included in event documentation\, and our team will make reasonable efforts to accommodate these preferences. \nCancellation and Refunds\nIn the event of cancellation due to severe weather\, participants will be refunded to their original form of payment. All other sales are final. \nRegistration\nRegistration for this tour is $10 per person; advance registration is required. The button below will redirect you to Eventbrite where you can complete your purchase. \nRegistration
