SUMMARY:Public Art Training Camp: Administering Art Projects
DESCRIPTION:Cortney Stell\, Executive Director and Chief Curator at Black Cube will walk artists through best practices for administering projects and creating a strong project management system. \nAbout Cortney Stell\nCortney Lane Stell is the Executive Director and Chief Curator of Black Cube\, a nomadic contemporary art museum headquartered in Denver\, Colorado. Stell was appointed in 2020 by Denver Mayor Hancock to serve a 4-year term on Denver’s Commission on Cultural Affairs. She has held independent curatorial practice since 2006\, which has included curating numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally for museums\, university galleries\, biennials and art events. Stemming from a philosophical interest in art as communication\, Stell has organized exhibitions that focus on artworks experimental in both conceptual and material nature\, including exhibitions with artists such as Liam Gillick\, Cyprien Gaillard\, Daniel Arsham\, and Shirley Tse. Stell holds a MA from the European Graduate School in Switzerland where she is also a PhD candidate in Media Communications. \nAbout Black Cube\nBlack Cube is a nonprofit\, nomadic art museum headquartered in Denver\, Colorado. By operating outside of traditional museum confines\, Black Cube endeavors to reach diverse audiences across the globe while supporting artists’ sustainability. At its core\, Black Cube stimulates the public realm with ambitious\, experimental\, and engaging contemporary art that seeks to inspire. To advance its mission\, Black Cube offers an artist fellowship\, exhibitions\, and public programming focused on sustaining artists’ careers and forming meaningful relationships with audiences. Since 2015\, Black Cube has worked closely with over 100 artists and produced nomadic exhibitions regionally\, nationally\, and internationally—from small Colorado mining towns to the world stage of the Venice Biennale.
