Summary
Shiftworks Community + Public Arts and The Art Supply Co. (TASC) have been hired by the City of Pittsburgh (City) to manage the artist selection and public art process for the University Line. The University Line is a joint project of the City and Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) to connect Oakland, Uptown, and Downtown via a new bus rapid transit line. As part of the transit line construction, the City and PRT are interested in engaging an artist or artist team to design artistic enhancements within the transit corridor and surrounding public spaces. The selected artist or artist team will collaborate with the project team to identify opportunities for artistic enhancements that align with the project’s goals, site conditions, and community context.

Eligibility
The opportunity has been released to artists who are members of the Pittsburgh Creative Corps artist roster and artists living in southwestern Pennsylvania, which includes residents of the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, and Westmoreland. Interested artists are asked to submit an application as part of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process. Artists may apply as an individual or as a team. All applicants, whether team or solo, must be led by a visual artist.
Selection Process
Qualifications submitted through this RFQ will be reviewed by a selection panel consisting of project stakeholders, arts professionals, and community representatives. The selection panel will identify up to three (3) applicants to interview for the project, with interviews held the week of July 7, 2025. If selected for an interview, artists will be asked to prepare a short presentation about their past work, followed by a question and answer session with the panel. Artists who are asked to interview will not be asked to develop a model or proposal.
From the interviews, one artist or team will be selected to develop artistic enhancements for the University Line corridor.
Shiftworks may check references to assist in the evaluation of applicants’ qualifications should they advance to the interview stage.
Information Session
Shiftworks will host an information session for this opportunity via Zoom on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM ET to discuss the application process and respond to questions. Participants are required to pre-register for the meeting. To attend the information session visit the Zoom registration page.
Artists are not required to attend the information session in order to submit an application. The session will be recorded and made available on the Shiftworks Vimeo page within 48 hours.

Application Assistance
Applicants interested in assistance or feedback in advance of application submission are invited to sign up for a one-on-one work session or “office hours,” with a Shiftworks staff member.
VIRTUAL meetings are available weekly on MONDAYS from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
IN-PERSON meetings are available weekly on THURSDAYS from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Shiftworks’ offices are located in East Liberty at 224 North Euclid Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
